Jaga jazzist - day.

This track would have been perfect but a video has already been made for it, and a very good one at that. AKFF also produced the video for animalchin (above) - two real Norwegian gems.

MONSTER SHINDIG!

I stumbled across this gem on a blog over Easter! It was released on hanna-barbera records in 1966 as part of a compilation of tracks by Danny Hutton, featuring The Gruesome's from The Flintstones! The paradox of horror/kids tv imagery would obviously provide more of a context for any characters that i wanted to include or create.

MUSIC TRACKS.

These are a handful of producers and that i enjoy and some tracks that could be appropriate. Im leaning towards jazz/broken beat sounds, and inclined to stay away from anything that sounds too dark or minimal. Its also important that the duration is fairly short - around 2/3 minutes. Will keep posting more up and further research throughout/after the holiday.

Music video.

As i have tried my hand at various moving image disciplines since being on the course i think it makes sense to produce a film of sorts for the FMP. It gives me the opportunity to try and draw together some of the things ive learned across camera operation, editing, motion graphics, and digital animation. My limited knowledge of After Effects is one thing i am particularly keen to address. After spending the best part of 4-5 months trying to get somewhere with it across two projects last year it would be good to finish something to a half decent standard.

The relationship between moving-image media and music i have found particularly resonant in this sense. My more successful projects have always involved music, so it would be foolish not to utilize this.

Probably the most important part of my learning curve throughout college is that doing things for the love and enjoyment often breeds the most successful outcomes. I would prefer to make something for a producer/dj/band/etc, as from past experience i tend to organise my time properly and work much harder, however it is equally important that i actually like their music and can engage with it. For this reason i wont be getting to caught up in a quest to find a client, but if something comes up then great.

BUILDING UP CLASSROOM EXPERIENCE

I was unable to get onto a PGCE course for next year, and feel that spending more time in an art classroom would improve my chances when applying again. According to the feedback from the interview, a lack of classroom experience and knowledge of the curriculum were the main reasons for not being accepted onto the course, so it is important to address this for the next time around. I felt that the content of my portfolio was not very well received, and that they maybe expected it to be less refined with sketchbook work, craft, painting, fabric, etc. The layout of my portfolio also needs to be more self-explanatory and structured to read how i want it to.

I will contact the teacher i worked with at cockburn college in the autumn to see if it's possible to get some more experience there after Easter.

Leeds mentoring

Working once weekly in Pudsey Grangefield school for 'leeds mentoring', with 12 students who were selected for the programme. This includes boys across year 9, 10, 11, and 12, with the intention of raising attainment, aspirations, self-esteem, and awareness of post 16 education.

The last few weeks have been spent getting to know them and considering what areas would be appropriate to address. It should be a valuable overall experience for learning ways of engaging students who aren't as motivated as they could be, and building relationships with young people in secondary education. Links between art, sport and music were generally considered to be strong hooks of such engagement when this was discussed in the interim crit.
